Chinese agree to remove faults in locomotives

LAHORE – The Pakistan Railways (PR) has demanded the Chinese company to provide new under-frame of the locomotives after serious faults developed in them.
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and top officials of the department made the demand in a meeting with the Chinese engineers held at the Railways Headquarters on Tuesday. The engineers had arrived in Pakistan on Monday to inspect 16 faulty locomotives.
PR stopped the operation of engines after under-frame cracks appeared in them. The 16 locomotives are said to be under-warranty, and were part of 63 locomotives which the PR purchased from the Chinese company, CSR ZUTYANG, in an agreement singed in 2013.
“PR has directed the Chinese engineers to suggest a permanent solution to remove faults in the locomotives within 48 hours. The engineers accepted the demands of the Railways,” said the spokesperson for the PR.
Chinese technicians and material will reach Lahore on February 14 to remove faults in six locomotives, said the spokesperson, adding the engineers would present permanent solution regarding removing of faults till Friday.
