Oscars 2016: Leonardo DiCaprio finally wins Academy Award

Leonardo DiCaprio finally became an Oscar winning actor at the 88th Academy Awards. It took the actor six nominations to bag the elusive golden statuette.

Considered as one of the greatest actors of our time and a creative force to reckon with, fans and fraternity were rooting for the Californian boy’s Oscar dream to come true.

Hosted by comedian Chris Rock, the awards took place at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. This was Rock’s second time hosting the event since 2005.

While ‘The Revenant’ led the charge at Oscars 2016 with 12 nominations, it was the insane ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ that bagged six Oscars out of its 10 nominations, mostly in the technical categories. ‘Spotlight’ won Best Picture.

DiCaprio’s gritty ‘Revenant’ also won Best Director for Alejandro Iñarritu.

This year was extra special for fans of Indian cinema as superstar Priyanka Chopra becomes the first ever actress from India to present an award at the famous event.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this year’s Oscars was expected to be broadcast in more than 225 countries.
