ISLAMABAD: The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) on Wednesday rejected Punjab’s request for opening up the Chashma-Jehlum link canal and decided to give an additional 20,000 cusecs of water to Sindh.

The decision to give additional water to Sindh was made during an Irsa meeting in Islamabad presided by Acting Irsa Chairman Shafqat Masood.

The meeting analysed the request for opening up the Chashma-Jehlum link canal which was eventually rejected after opposition from two Irsa committee members. Meanwhile, a majority of members agreed over giving an additional 20,000 cusecs of water to Sindh.

After Wednesday’s decision, the total amount of water being given to Sindh has risen to 1,90,000 cusecs.
