Sherlock Holmes sequel release date confirmed — but will Brad Pitt play Robert Downey Jr. nemesis?
The release date for the sequel to Sherlock Holmes starring hot male celebrities Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law has been announced, but there is still no final confirmation whether or not Brad Pitt has been cast to play the classic villain Moriarty.

Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law will be sleuthing again on the big screen on December 16, 2012.
Warner Bros chairman and CEO Barry Meyer announced the release date for Sherlock Holmes 2 to investors, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A few more clues on the sequel came from Sci Fi Wire, who spoke to producer Joel Silver.
He revealed filming would start this autumn and that the story would definitely include a major role for the detective’s arch nemesis Moriarty.
Silver said: “We want it to be really bold and strong, and Moriarty has got to be a really incredible character. We spent a movie setting up a character, and now we can make the next movie where we pay that character off.”
He added that Rachel McAdams would be back as Irene Adler, but not in a leading role.
A flurry of speculation that suggested Brad Pitt would appear as Moriarty has not yet been confirmed — but when a conformation or firm denial of the role is made public, we’ll post a status update here to keep fans and fellow celebrity gossip bloggers posted.
However — we have to share this… Until we watched the video below of Robert Downey Jr. cutting up with Jude Law off set, we were not sure if Brad Pitt would fit in with their clique.
Seeing the men interacting well together off movie cam lets us know that Pitt — famous for having been George Clooney’s sidekick and the butt of many of his practical jokes — might just have a blast working with these two actors.
