FIFA: Spain beating Germany swings to Finals
Spain is one win away from capturing the country’s first FIFA World Cup title.
Defender Carles Puyol’s goal in the 73rd minute gave Spain a 1-0 victory over Germany in the semifinal match Wednesday in Durban, South Africa.
The European champions played a masterful ball-control contest, frustrating the Germans at every turn.
Puyol converted a beautiful corner kick by teammate Xavi, using a perfect header to direct the ball by Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Spain now plays the Netherlands, which defeated Uruguay on Tuesday, in Sunday’s final.
