QUETTA: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani welcomed the appointment of General David Petraeus as the commander of American forces in Afghanistan.

He addressed the officers during his visit to the Command and Staff College Quetta while expressing hope that peace and stability will be restored in Afghanistan. He called upon stakeholders in Afghanistan to synergize their efforts towards achievement of common strategic objectives.

General Kayani also said that support and backing of the people of South Waziristan is critical in the fight against militancy in the tribal areas.
