Political will, unity key to defeating terrorism: PM

political-willunity-key-toISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said political will and national unity was the key to defeating extremism and ridding the country of terrorists’ threat.

Addressing the passing out parade of assistant superintendents of police at the National Police Academy here, Mr Gilani reiterated his government’s resolve to eliminate the forces of extremism and terrorism.

The prime minister announced Rs500,000 for ASP Mustansar Feroz for all-round performance during the training.

He also gave away trophies to ASPs Abbas Mehboob, Shafi Hussain, Syed Ali Asif, Mohammad Nadeem and Mustansar Feroz for achieving distinction in studies and other disciplines.

“With the support and backing of people, we are destined to succeed against forces of darkness. We have already broken their back through expression of national unity and political will,” he added.

The prime minister was confident that the nation would never give in to terrorist elements, forces of violence and extremism.

He stressed the need of sensitising the public so that they remain vigilant against these forces of darkness.

“All peace-loving forces will have to create a synergy to defeat the evil designs of anti-humanity and anti-Pakistan elements”, the prime minister said.

He also pointed out that sacrifices by the police could not restore their image as complaints against them were rampant.

He called for quality training and directed the management of National Police Academy to study the best training practices being followed in the world and modify its programme by incorporating the universal elements of training and discipline.
