Punjab will protect farmers’ rights, says Shahbaz
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday said that the Chashma-Jhelum link canal was a part of the Sindh Tas agreement but due to the dictators’ wrong decisions, Punjab province has faced problems.
Speaking during the Punjab Assembly session, Shahbaz Sharif said that according to the NFC award all chief ministers had developed consensus over the fair distribution of water. He said that the Punjab government will protect the rights of farmers and would not compromise on the province’s due share of water.
Shahbaz assured that he will discuss the water issue with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
During the session, senior provincial minister Raja Riaz said that the Chashma-Jhelum link canal will prove profitable for Punjab. He said he was hopeful that Irsa’s new representative would be from Islamabad or Azad Kashmir.
On the issue of fake academic records, Chief Minister Shahbaz said that the Punjab Assembly members’ reservations were reasonable. He, however, added that for democracy’s stability one could not reject the services of media organisations.
