SC rejects review petitions of PCO judges

sc-rejects-review-petitionsISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court rejected on Thursday review petitions filed by four judges, who took other under the PCO after Nov 3 Emergency.

Dr Abdul Basit, the counsel of petitioners, had refused to give his arguments without getting a verdict on the presence of two judges in the bench.

The review petitions were filed by former chief justice of the Lahore High Court Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain, Justice Hasnat Ahmed, Justice Shabbar Raza Rizvi and Justice Hamid Ali Shah.

A five-member bench headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk took up the petitions, but counsel of the PCO judges raised objections about the presence of Justice Raja Fiaz Ahmed and Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk.

He argued that these two judges were part of the seven-judge bench, who had ordered the PCO judges not to take oath under the PCO.

The bench, however, jointly rejected the objection and asked Dr Basit to continue arguments.

Dr. Basit demanded the decision in written and termed it prejudiced.

Justice Nasir ul Mulk said that the court would hear the cases on merit and asked Basit to give arguments.

On Dr Basit’s insistence, the court today rejected the review petitions.
