Sonam Kapoor was born on June 9, 1985 in Bombay to Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor. Sonam is the eldest of 3 children and has a sister, Rhea and brother
Harshavardhan. Anil Kapoor is a very well known Bollywood actor who shot to fame in Hollywood after his performance in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Sonam’s mother was also a well known model in her time.
Sonam did her graduation in Political Science and Economic from University of Mumbai. She is fluent in Hindi, English and Punjabi. She also has training in classical and latin dance forms.
Sonam Kapoor started her stint in Bollywood by assisting under sanjay Leela Bansali during the making of his film titled ‘Black’. Sonam made her acting debut opposite Ranbir kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bansali’s ‘Saawariya’. The film bombed at the box office but her performance was opened to good reviews by most critics.
In 2009, Kapoor appeared in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi-6, opposite Abhishek Bachchan. The film flopped at the box office and received mixed reviews by the critics, but her performance was highly praised. Critic Rajeev Masand commented, “Sonam Kapoor is the revelation in Delhi 6. She’s a firecracker performer, instinctive and uninhibited in what isn’t even a conventional female lead”.
In 2010, she has appeared in Punit Malhotra’s I Hate Luv Storys opposite Imran Khan. The film has become her first box office success. She is also set to appear in Aisha opposite Abhay Deol.
Her films may not have been a success but Sonam has alredy won two awards for her sizzling performace & her sultry beauty. She won none other than the prestigious Filmfare Awrd for Best Female Debut in 2008 for Saawariya & Sony Head N Shoulders Fresh Face of the Year Award same year for the same film.
2008 was truly Sonam’s year as she was also nominated for two Star Screen Awards, i.e, Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Female; Saawariya & Star Screen Award Jodi No. 1 along with Ranbir Kapoor.
Sonam’s beautiful debut was recognised on other platforms as well, such as Zee Cine Awards where she was nominated for Best Debut Female & won Stardust’s Superstar of Tomorrow –Female.
Truly a superstar Sonam has truly made her mark in the youth of today.
Apart from her film career she has also been endorsing some really famous brands. She’s L’Oreal youth ambassador as well, pushing many of her seniors like Aishwariya Rai-Bachan in shadows.
Even though her movies have not performed well, Sonam is still immensely popular with the youth and is considered one of the fashion icons of the country & abroad.
